I put updating my website on hold over 14 years ago after I lost Idgie. I didn't know how to honor her or put into words what she meant to me. Idgie was the first puppy I ever whelped and held in my hands. At that very moment I looked at my Mom, who was there to support me, and I said "Maybe she's the one!" She was that and so much more. Even after all these years it is hard to describe the bond we shared. She was just my girl. My Idg. Everything I have in my breeding program comes down from her. I lost her far too young from cancer - my first crash course ugly experience - and we journeyed through that process together where I learned so much about dignity, grace, integrative medicine, the importance of quality of life and living for the day, and in the end honoring and respecting her needs, not mine. We had an unspeakable trust and connection. We navigated together chemotherapy, holistic medicine, and everything in between. She trusted me to care for her. I developed a newfound resiliency and respect for realistic expectations. To say she was an amazing and once in a lifetime bitch is an understatement. I will be forever thankful for the care and compassion of her team: my vets at Pepperell Veterinary Hospital, New England Veterinary Oncology Group in Waltham, MA, and Randy Caviness, DVM of Integrative Animal Health Center.

Idgie was too big for many, but I loved her just the same. Idgie embodied the type, balance, and structure I desire, and the endearing temperament that I strive to emulate. She was, and is, my heart dog, the girl who gave me so much in and out of the whelping box. An amazing worker with incredible marking ability, she completed her JH and CD titles in straight tests. She had a drive and willingness to please that I now see several generations forward. I can't say thank you enough for that.

Idgie has a 5-point Specialty Best of Winners and Winners Bitch, Supported Entry 4-point major, multiple Specialty placements, Specialty Best Bred-By's, and Specialty Best Brood Bitch wins.  Even though she didn't finish her breed championship, she will always be a true champion in my eyes and heart. Sometimes people ask, "Where did her name come from?" And I say, "Why, the novel and film Fried Green Tomatoes, of course!"

A sincere thank you to Ruth Soloman, DVM, for the very special photos of Idgie and me.
