Louie Babies

There will never be another Louie. Louie made an impression on everyone he met. He got along with everyone including all dogs, cats, and critters. He was a big goofball, so gentle and kind. He thought he was a lapdog, yet was completely unaware of his bulk.
Louie captured my eye at 4 weeks and captivated me ever since. He went through the ganglies at 4-5 months of age and many thought I was crazy to hold onto him, but I remembered what I saw in the whelping box at 6 and 8 weeks and I was patient. He matured again a few months later and from there it was such a joy to see how well he did in the show ring. He took his first points, a 5-point Specialty Winners Dog and Best of Winners, on his 11 month birthday. On his journey to his championship he picked up almost all points under breeder-judges. Not fully mature until about 4.5 years of age, I am so proud to have finished him all owner-handled with a memorable win from the Bred-by Exhibitor class going Best in Specialty and Best Bred-by Exhibitor in Specialty. I'll never forget that day.
Louie was named after my first heart-dog, Lobuff Nycoma's Moonshadow JH CDX CGC TDI, who I lost suddenly to kidney failure and likely Lyme nephritis when Louie was just two months old. Louie reminded me so much of Zachary's kind soul, hence his namesake. Louie loved to retrieve and had incredible drive and power. He was a known excavator, yanking up trees and shrubs by their roots, and had a fetish for diving for and carrying around rocks. By the time he was 10 years of age his teeth looked like nubs.
At 4 months of age he started sitting up on his own with no training at all, a trait that's been passed down many generations according to others who have Louie descendents, including his great granddaughter, Hope, who lives with us today. I am so grateful for what this amazing boy gave us and I look forward to having a piece of Louie again in this house in the near future.

I am humbled by the lovely and kind words that both Margaret Wilson and Margaret Brown shared in their critiques of Louie at the 2007 Potomac Specialty:
1st Place 12-18 Month Regular Class, Margaret Brown, Ramsayville Labradors
"This young dog has an excellent front assembly with good depth of brisket and well laid shoulders, strong neck of correct length, slight arch giving a continual line from neck into strong firm topline, kind masculine head with intelligent expression, good length of rib which allowed him to move unrestricted, well developed quarters with moderate angulation at the stifle, nothing is exaggerated and he has such lovely balance from nose to tail, superb coat and well clothed tail, reminded me very much of my own Chevalier."
1st Place 15-18 Month Sweepstakes, Margaret Wilson, Shadowglen Labradors
"Stunning black boy. Well put together with a beautiful front and rear. Moved well with nice animation. Happy dog in tune with his handler. Beautiful head and expression. Well let down hocks, good bone and neat feet. Very promising future."
THANK YOU FOR THESE LOVELY WORDS!!
Best of Winners, Winners Dog, Best Puppy: 5-point major from 9-12M Puppy class
2006 Pawcatuck River Labrador Retriever Club Specialty
Dr. Michael Woods, Waterdog Labradors
"Young dog that exuded quality and potential; correct outline; lovely head and expression that is so difficult to find; wonderful neck and shoulders; strong topline and short coupled; excellent coat texture with correct otter tail coming off the topline. Good leg and bone under him. Showed very well on this day and moved soundly with puppy exuberance. I obviously thought him an outstanding young dog that
exemplified type and awarded him WD and BOW."
